Working alcoves

Location: Bay of Arcachon
  • In our current, post-Covid world, more and more people are working from home. However, it is quite rare to have enough space and dedicate an entire room to an office space.

For this project, we worked directly with the construction company, from the outset and designed plans together. We tweaked the large open-plan living space to include an intimate alcove, a nook dedicated to work. We integrated a full-height fixed window as part of the design and given the north-facing exposure, we were able to install a custom-made wooden desk directly facing the bay. We also designed the desk with a full-width drawer, to allow storage for a laptop, tablet and work documents to store things away in the evenings and at weekends.

For smaller budgets, we have also adapted cupboards in guest rooms for example. Here, we used the hyper-functional and versatile IVAR system from IKEA and installed a boho curtain that blends into the decor of the room to hide the office area and transform the room into a guest bedroom, when needed.
